Our Legacy
West Coast Rugby Football Union
Established in 1890, the West Coast Rugby Football Union is the official governing body for rugby union across the Westland County, Hokitika Borough, and Greymouth Borough districts. With over 130 years of proud history, we are a cornerstone of the West Coast sporting community and remain deeply committed to fostering the legacy of rugby across our region.
As an affiliate of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union, we support and develop the game at all levels—from grassroots through to our provincial representative team, which was a founding member of the National Provincial Championship. Based in Greymouth, the team plays its home matches at John Sturgeon Park (known historically as Rugby Park), honouring one of our most respected rugby figures in NZ Rugby
Our enduring mission is to grow, support, and champion rugby on the Coast nurturing talent, building community, and celebrating the spirit of the game.
