COAST SCHOOLS WIN DIVISION 2 RUGBY TITLE

The West Coast Combined High School U15 rugby team has returned home from the Rural Livestock South Island Secondary Schools Tournament in Oamaru (Aug 25–27) with the Division 2 title after an outstanding three days of rugby.
Made up of players from John Paul II High School, Greymouth High School, Westland High School, and South Westland Area School, the team faced strong opposition from across the South Island in a 22-team competition.

After mixed results on the opening two days — including a tough 26–45 loss to Ashburton and 0-17 loss to South Otago. Impressive wins over Motueka (31–12) and Manuawai (49–17) — the Coasters qualified for finals day in strong form.
In the semi-final, they edged past Wakatipu 14–7 before lifting their game again in the final against St Kevin’s College, sealing a memorable 27–17 victory.

The result placed the Coast side 1st in Division 2 and 5th overall, a huge achievement for a young squad showing plenty of promise.

The team was well supported by West Coast Rugby, with coaches and supporters praising the players’ teamwork, resilience, and pride in representing the region.
